Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD and CBD-A?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating compound found in hemp.  Our bodies have a set of receptors that interact with the cannabis based compounds called cannabinoids. These receptors found throughout the body, make up the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a complex signaling system that ensures our bodies maintain homeostasis or balance.

HempScience makes extracts with the whole hemp flower, which in one formulation, includes the raw acidic form of the cannabinoid, CBD-A or cannbidiolic acid.

So, what does that mean?

While most cannabinoids bind directly with either the CB1 or CB2 receptors, cannabidiolic acid or CBD-A doesn’t work in this way. Instead, CBD-A interacts within the endocannabinoid system by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. COX-2 enzymes are associated with inflammation after an injury or infection, so by blocking COX-2 enzymes, CBD-A may help relieve inflammation and the associated pain.

What is the difference between your broad spectrum and full spectrum extracts?

HempScience's broad spectrum tincture begins as a full spectrum crude extract, including everything the plant's got.  A full range of beneficial cannabinioids and terpenes are in this mixture.  The crude extract then goes through a refinement process, removing many of the plant fats and waxes.  This process reduces the spicy flavor often associated with the full spectrum extracts. The material is then run through a distillation process, which clarifies and concentrates the extract.

Some manufactures sell broad spectrum extracts that have removed a portion of the naturally occurring cannabinoids, or even use CBD isolate to spike the potency.  HempScience does not do this, and consider our product a true broad spectrum tincture.  We believe in the power of plants, do not remove any of the cannabianoids, and each bottle contains 1000mg of active CBD.

The HempScience full spectrum extract is a bit less refined, and utilizes the whole hemp flower, including raw cannabinoids.  This formulation includes both CBD + CBD-A, a few additional minor cannabinoids, and the naturally occurring terpenes. The full spectrum extract includes 500mg CBD and 500mg of CBD-A , for a total of 1000 mg per 1 oz bottle.

What is the difference between USDA certified organic vs. "organically grown"?

Organic certification requires that farmers and handlers document their processes and get inspected every year. Organic on-site inspections account for every component of the operation, including, but not limited to, seed sources, soil conditions, crop health, weed and pest management, water systems, inputs, contamination by record keeping. Tracing organic products from start to finish is part of the USDA organic promise.  If a product or process does not have the USDA organic seal, it has not gone through this process and the consumer is "trusting" that the entire supply chain did not use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or other prohibited substances.  "Organically grown" and "naturally produced" are just buzz words used by operations that have not gone through the rigorous process of becoming USDA certified organic or equivalent.

What are hemp flower extracts and where do they come from?

HempScience sources only certified organic hemp flowers directly from our network of trusted small family farmers.  This material is then taken to our certified organic, ISO 9001, FDA registered, food grade extraction facility.  Utilizing supercritical and sub-critical CO2 extraction, we create the hemp flower extracts which are then blended into certified organic coconut based medium chain triglycerides (MCTs).

What shipping methods do you use?  Do you ship to my state or country?

We currently utilize the USPS to provide the most cost effective shipping, but express shipping using UPS is also possible.  At this time, we ship within the United States only.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, the endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the vertebrate central and peripheral nervous systems. The endogenous cannabinoid system is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body, including the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells.  And yes, our pets have them too!

What's the difference between CBD oil, isolates, and whole hemp flower extracts?

Whole hemp flower extracts and CBD (cannabidiol) are different. Whole flower hemp extracts are a concentrated form of the hemp flower which includes all the naturally occurring components the plant has to offer.  CBD is a single molecule, only one of the many components the hemp plant has to offer.  HempScience's proprietary hemp flower extract formulations are naturally high in several cannabinoids, including CBD.  We feel our whole flower extracts are more effective than tinctures made with single molecule, commercially produced isolates.

What is the entourage effect?

In basic terms, the entourage effect combines the whole plant power to maximize hemp's therapeutic effects. It occurs when the hundreds of compounds within the hemp plant interact with our bodies. The combination of compounds produces a stronger influence than any individual one, in what is called a "synergistic effect". Other cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids may also be part of the entourage effect. You call it magic, we call it science.

Do you test your products?

Yes!  We utilize both in-house and third party laboratory testing to verify the quality of our finalized hemp flower extract tinctures. We test for potency, heavy metals, molds, and a 500 herbicide/pesticide test. Each batch can be traced via QR codes on the labels to the quality COA's on the website.

Our promise to you are clean, safe, and premium hemp products that support small farmers that are helping the earth.

Will HempScience offer other products in the future?

Yes.  HempScience plans to offer our current and future formulations in other delivery formats such as softgels, gummies, topicals, and water soluble in the near future.
